RUSSIA: Quitting the International Space Station in 2024
The International Space Station, which has been a symbol of cooperation between the U.S. and Russia for 24 years, is coming to an end.
Russia's space agency announced today that it will end its involvement in the ISS program in 2024, likely as a result of growing animosity between the two countries over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The head of the agency told Russian President Vladimir Putin that it will instead focus on building its own space station which it hopes to have operational in 2025. The ISS was launched in 1998 and has long been seen as an example of two longtime adversaries being able to work together. (Yahoo)
Scott's Thoughts:
- Bye bye.
- It's too bad. Both countries have done great work together in space over the past 24 years.
- Should we be worried that Russia will have its own station floating around in space?
