Bats at the Ball
A high school in California was forced to postpone its homecoming dance after staff discovered bats living in the gymnasium.
The dance at Davis Senior High School was scheduled for Saturday, but because of the presence of flying rats, it will be rescheduled for another date. A Facebook post from the school district says, "After immediate consultation with Yolo County Animal Control and professionals who specialize in bat abatement, we learned we could not remove the bats from the gym in time for the dance." Experts say they are Mexican Free-Tailed Bats and likely found their way into the gymnasium in search of shelter and food. Since bats can carry rabies, school officials are waiting for them to leave on their own, rather than having experts try to capture them. Once they leave, the dance will be rescheduled. (CBS News)

- Have the dance as scheduled. Just make it Halloween-themed.
- Once the bats leave, I would want repeated assurances that they are all gone.
- Whenever the dance is rescheduled, you know there will be pranksters bring fake bats.
