Study: People That Use Alarm Clocks Are ‘Chronically Tired’

A new study published in the journal “Sleep” says that people who use an alarm clock to wake up are more tired than people that wake up naturally. According to researchers at the University of Notre Dame, 57% of fully employed, salaried workers hit snooze on their alarms at least once in the mornings.

The study included 450 adult participants and found that the ones who hit snooze on their alarms had more sleep disturbances, and those that woke up without an alarm slept longer and drank less caffeine. Women were also 50% more likely to hit snooze. Participants got the same amount of sleep, but snoozers took more naps and felt more tired.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • I can buy this. 100%. I used to do morning radio and had to wake up with an alarm clock at 4AM. Did it for over 15 years. I was always tired. But as soon as I started doing afternoon radio and NOT using an alarm clock, I felt better! I wake up on my own about 7 to 7:30 now.
  • What choice do some people have? They have to get to work at a certain time or they could lose their jobs!
