The U.S. divorce rate hit a 50-year low recently, but one specific group is actually seeing more marriages breakdown, according to one lawyer. Dennis R. Vetrano Jr., a family law attorney in New York, shares a “major theme” he’s seeing in divorces of working parents. And it’s all about moms getting fed up with having to do everything.
In a now-viral TikTok video, he explains that working moms “are tired” of handling the majority of the household chores and childcare, all while managing their own careers. So on top of working full-time, they’re in charge of the kids, the home, the cooking and cleaning, plus, Vetrano Jr says “they’re paying for the house and doing everything else,” and he sees the husbands “step back and say, ‘Huh, I don’t gotta do a thing!’”
While the top three causes for divorce are finances, infidelity and addiction, according to the lawyer, he says another cause - working moms doing it all - has been on the rise for about 10 years. As a result of feeling like they’re the only one pulling their weight, Vetrano Jr shares that many of his female clients describe themselves as a “married single parent.”

Scott's Thoughts:
- If the women already feel like they’re doing all the work alone, no wonder they decide they’d be better off alone!
- Think any husbands out there will take this as a wake up call? It’s probably time for a lot of them to step up!
- I have to say I never had the attitude described about men here. I always felt doing my share was more than just mowing the yard and taking out the trash. If both parents work, both parents share in the chores around the house and of course in the child raising. Wake up men!
