How do you feel about eggnog? Love it or hate it, when it comes to classic Christmas cocktails, eggnog is definitely up there. So how much are Americans drinking it? A new survey set out to find out.
The site Wealth of Geeks polled 3-thousand adults across the country to find out how many “milk punches” or spiked eggnogs they typically drink during the holiday season. And here’s what they learned:
- The average American is expected to knock back six boozy eggnogs this month.
- That adds up to an estimated 1.2-billion eggnogs consumed in the U.S.
- The state where people consume the most eggnogs is Vermont, with an average of 19 per adult.
- People aren’t afraid to start their daytime drinking early with eggnog, as respondents say the acceptable time to start sipping one during the holidays is 2:42 p.m., but 18% admit they start before lunchtime.
- North Dakota residents drink the most during the holidays, with an average of eight alcoholic drinks per person per day.
- While many folks may be nursing a hangover the morning after a holiday, New Year’s Day is reportedly the peak day for hangovers.
- It doesn’t take long for people to reach a state of festive burnout. The average drinker gets there by December 10th, only 15 days into the holiday season.

Scott's Thoughts:
- There are a lot of tasty holiday cocktails out there, but many think eggnog isn’t one of them!
- I have a couple every year. Maybe a little leftover without alcohol too.
- Pet eggnog has always been my personal favorite.
