Are you a sucker for cheesy movie lines? New research suggests many Americans are and it highlights some of the cringiest, most quote-worthy lines from our favorite films.
A survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults finds that 63% are more likely to remember the cheesy lines in movies than the serious ones.
- Americans also prefer corny movies twice as much as serious, dramatic ones (45% to 22%).
- The king of all cheesy lines is “You had me at ‘hello,’” from “Jerry Maguire, which wins as America’s favorite overall.
- Coming in second is in “Dirty Dancing,” when Baby says to Patrick Swayze’s character, “I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.”
- The “Pretty Woman” line, “I want the fairytale” is third on the list.
- That’s followed by “We’ll always have Paris,” from “Casablanca,” and “I’d rather die tomorrow than live a hundred years without knowing you,” from “Pocahontas” finishing out the top five.
- Nearly half (47%) of those polled admit they consider their partner to be “cheesy” and 61% actually consider it an attractive quality.
