Seems the old saying about humor and your health is true – even when it comes to doctors’ health. Researchers in Germany found that medical assistants who used “light” humor – like silly jokes or laughing about the hiccups of daily life were happier and more confident at work. On the other hand, those who had a darker side to their humor – like sarcasm, mean jabs, or laughing at the misfortune of others, tended to be less satisfied and less competent in their jobs.
“MAs with a preference for light humor stated that they received more positive feedback and were more likely to feel that they were making a difference at work,” said Julia Raecke, who is doing her doctorate at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU).
