How To Have More “Perfect” Days This Year

What would your “perfect day” look like? That’s what a new survey asks 2-thousand Americans to find out how they’d spend an ideal 24 hours. And it turns out, it’s mostly stuff they already do, but they’d give themselves more time to enjoy it all.

While some folks may argue there’s no such thing as a “perfect day,” plenty of people are already having them. The average respondent experienced 12 of them in 2024 alone and they’re optimistic they’ll enjoy 16 “perfect days” this year - that’s one every 22 days.

So, how would Americans spend 24 hours to create a perfect day?

  • Sleeping for about seven hours and waking up at 7:48 a.m., on average
  • Spending quality time with family for three hours
  • Watching TV or movies for 3.1 hours
  • Eating for two hours
  • Hanging out with friends for 1.4 hours
  • Being on their phone for 1.5 hours
  • Enjoying their hobbies for 1.4 hours
  • Spending time with their pets for 1.1 hours
  • Working out or playing sports for 48 minutes
  • Shopping for 48 minutes
  • Listening to music for 1.3 hours
  • Squeezing in a nap for about 40 minutes
  • Going to bed at a reasonable hour, with 11 p.m. considered the ideal bedtime, on average.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • I’m all for a perfect day with no chores, but does that mean I’ll have twice as much to do tomorrow?
  • My perfect day would be with my Lady Jane, my kids, my other family or any combination of those!
  • I think we should be careful about trying to set the bar so high on what a "perfect day" looks like. Because if it is a good day and any one thing doesn't go right, then your day is ruined. I would rather have a "pretty good day" than a "bad day."
