The Reason Chocolate Is Getting So Much More Expensive

This is stating the obvious, but just about everything these days is more expensive. That’s especially true with chocolate. Why, you ask? Two recent reports put the blame on warming temperatures. Just about 70% of the world’s cacao supply comes from West Africa, thanks to the region’s humidity, rainfall, soil, and “natural wind buffers.” However, when temperatures exceed 89.6 degrees, the plants are negatively affected by “water stress, resulting in poor plant growth and a decrease in the quality and quantity of seeds yielded. Because of that, your chocolate fix is going to cost you more in the foreseeable future.
