After two weeks of three square meals a day and a lot waiting, prison officials in Florida have finally recovered $769,000 worth of stolen jewelry that an inmate swallowed during his arrest.
35-year-old Jaythan Gilder visited the Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando posing as a representative for a player on the Orlando Magic who was sent to purchase jewelry. He was allowed into a VIP area to look at pricier jewels and stole diamond earrings and a ring. He left the store but police later caught up to him in his car. They recovered the ring, but not the earrings. Later as he was being booked into jail, a body scan image showed foreign objects in his stomach and he admitted to swallowing the jewelry.
Over the weekend, authorities finally recovered the last of the undigested diamonds. Gilder is charged with robbery and first-degree grand theft. (ABC News)
