Misplacing a child is every parent’s biggest nightmare. In Toronto, a woman named Julia was forced to use an Uber with her boyfriend and four kids after her car broke down…and accidentally left one of the kids in the car when they got home. After the initial freakout of leaving a five-year-old behind, Julia called Uber in hopes of getting in touch with the driver, but Uber wouldn’t help.
- Uber refused to contact the driver, due to their driver privacy policy
- Julia then called 911 to get help, and police showed up in minutes
- The cop called Uber, but was told they couldn’t help because the officer hadn’t filled out the proper form through their “public safety portal or by email using their emergency disclosure form
Fortunately, police were able to track down the car and the driver through other means, and later confirmed they were able to do it without any help from the rideshare company
After reports of the incident went public, Uber reps said they began an immediate review of the situation to find a way of improving their “processes and support systems.” They also added that their support teams did exactly what they were trained to do given the circumstances. Julia has since escalated her concerns with Uber.
