The Happiest States For Retirees

If you’re lucky enough to make it to your golden years, it’s not just longevity that counts, quality of life matters, too. Some parts of the country make it easier for seniors to thrive and enjoy life and a new study highlights where they are.

  • The Senior Happiness Index has just been released by Caring.com, revealing which states have the happiest seniors.
  • To come up with the ranking, researchers analyzed factors including each state’s happiness levels, good health rates of people over age 60 and the number of senior centers per state.
  • Based on all of that, the study finds one state has basically nailed the recipe for happiness - Utah.
  • It was named the healthiest state for older people in 2024, is one of the top five happiest states in a study from WalletHub, and has the third-lowest percentage of people ages 65 and older living alone.
  • Nearly half (44%) of the seniors in Utah actively volunteer, the highest rate in the country, which means those folks are staying connected socially and are involved in their community, which boosts well-being and happiness.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • Happiness is important, after all, what’s the point of living to be 100 if you’re miserable!
  • I want to retire where I live now. Right here in the mountains of Virginia!
  • Where do you dream about spending your golden years? Far from where you live now or exactly the same spot?
