You may have had a beer or two over the long weekend … but did you drink them over ice? Seems there's a new trend where Gen Z is putting ice in their beer, with fans saying it’s more refreshing that way – especially in hot climates or when you're sipping slowly and don’t want your beer to get warm. It’s especially popular in drinks like cheladas – which is just beer, lime juice, and salt. In fact, a survey found that more than 30% of 18- to 30-year-olds said they put their beer on ice. And 20% of those under 35 said they found the idea of adding ice to beer and wine “refreshing.”
But traditional beer lovers? Not so much. They say it waters down the flavor and ruins the experience. Interestingly, even chef David Chang chimed in, saying he loves it and thinks the backlash is just snobbery.
Scott's Thoughts:
- Eww. No thanks!
- I think for ultra or other light beers this might be ok, but I don't want my hazy IPA to get watered down!
- My beer is typically gone so fast it doesn't have time to warm up.
