If you've thought there were a lot more long field goals made in the first two weeks of the NFL season, you're not alone. It could be about the balls. Before this season, teams used special kicking footballs that players did not have access to until game days. For this year teams received 60 footballs for the season before the start of training camp. And kickers were allowed to work those footballs into the shape they want. That move has paid off, as more made field goals of 50-plus yards were made in Week 2 than any week since the 2000 season.
