Rhere’s still plenty of time to buy something special for your valentine this year, but it turns out, a lot of people wait until the last minute to get a gift. And according to new research from DoorDash, many of them turn to the site to save them on the romantic holiday. Their Valentine’s Day Trends report has just come out, revealing how Americans celebrate and what they order most.
DoorDash analyzed 2025 data on millions of Valentine’s Day orders and found:
- February 14th was the number one day of the year for premium restaurant orders. Everyone knows how hard it is to get a restaurant reservation on Valentine’s Day, so lots of lovebirds recreate the five-star experience at home with restaurant orders for lobsters (up 160%), steak (up 90%), and oysters (up 100%).
- Some home chefs prefer to DIY their dinner, as grocery orders for luxury ingredients like lobster increased 510% on Valentine’s Day.
- Carts were also filled with mood-setting treats like chocolate (orders up 260%), rosé champagne (up 190%) and Prosecco (up 120%).
- Valentine’s Day is also the single biggest day of the year for condom orders on DoorDash, which spiked 100% higher than an average day.
- Based on orders for condoms and adult toys during Valentine’s Day week last year, the most intimate - and prepared - states were Nevada, Maryland and Rhode Island.
- Some states were more romantic than spicy, those with the most orders for traditional gifts like flowers, chocolates and balloons were Delaware, Maryland and Rhode Island.
- Even though Valentine’s Day is always on February 14th, a lot of us procrastinate getting those gifts. Last year, 80% of all Valentine’s Day week flower orders on DoorDash were placed on the holiday itself.
- Galentine’s Day, celebrated February 13th, has become a big holiday for besties, and goodies for girls are in demand on the site, including gift cards (orders up 450%), bath bombs (up 100%) and cupcakes (up 130%).
- Parents count on DoorDash to get what their kids need for classroom celebrations, too. Orders for bulk candy packs spike 60% in the week ahead of the holiday and multi-pack cupcake orders have jumped 460% since 2023.

Scott's Thoughts:
- Hey, last-minute flower orders are better than no flowers at all!
- Let's be honest, the people who were thinking ahead were not the ones calling doordash at the last minute.
- I don't order this way. Fees are too much at my income level.
