A lot of people have strong feelings about Valentine’s Day, whether they look forward to going all out to enjoy it with their love, or see it as a commercial holiday that doesn’t deserve a card or a candy-filled heart. While some will treat February 14th like any other day, others are cooking up over-the-top date plans to spoil their sweetie with attention and gifts.
And it turns out, if you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with a partner, your plans say a lot about your relationship.
- Cozy night in with takeout - Couples who are looking forward to an evening at home, binge-watching their favorite shows and eating their favorite takeout seem to have something special. They don’t need fancy dinner reservations or expensive trips to prove their love, they’re happy just to be together. And it doesn’t get much more romantic than that.
- Dinner and a movie - This date is a classic and those who are doing this for Valentine’s Day are likely to be more traditional. They want to celebrate their love for each other, but don’t need pricey grand gestures to do it, which shows they’re stable and secure in their relationship.
- Fancy date night out - If your plans include a luxurious evening with a high-end dining experience, you’re a couple who appreciates the finer things in life. You don’t do “cheap,” even if you have to save and budget for months to pay for the romantic night of your dreams.
- Romantic hotel stay - Couples who are booking a bougie hotel room for the holiday are probably romantics at heart who love the full experience with rose petals and chocolates on their pillows. They also like to spice things up and enjoy being wooed on Valentine’s Day.
- Activity-based date - Adventurous, spontaneous types tend to prefer this kind of celebrating to being home on the couch. Whether it’s hiking or ice skating or hiking, they live for the thrill together and no one would ever accuse them of being boring.
- No plans - If you and your partner are basically ignoring the holiday, you may have a less traditional relationship. Maybe you’re free spirits who don’t need a special occasion to celebrate your love, and if so, good for you. If you both see it as a cheesy “Hallmark holiday,” you’ll enjoy your anti-celebration, but a simple love letter may be just enough to remind your person how special they are to you.

Scott's Thoughts:
- And this is why someone who wants to skydive for Valentine’s Day shouldn’t date a homebody!
- Nice quiet dinner at home with wine and TV appeals to me and my partner. :)
- No thanks on going out. Too crowded, too expensive.
