The next time you pass around a joint or a bong, don't skip over grandma and grandpa. A new study out of the University of Colorado suggests that middle‑aged and older adults who use cannabis may actually show better brain health and stronger cognitive performance than non‑users. Cannabis use among older adults has been rising fast. Nearly 20% of Americans between 50 and 64 say they’ve used marijuana in the past year, and close to 6% of seniors over 65 have, too. The study found that older adults who used cannabis tended to have larger brain volumes in several regions. And on cognitive tests — things like memory, learning, attention, and processing speed — cannabis users often performed better. So, grandma’s gummy might not just help her sleep. It could be giving her brain a boost.
