Coffee isn’t just a beverage for many of us, it’s a way of life. While some people just have an occasional cup, most of us are devoted daily drinkers and we count on our caffeine fix to keep us going. A new survey finds that the desire to have enough time for morning coffee is actually so strong, it gets 47% of Americans to get to bed earlier.
According to a poll of 2-thousand coffee drinkers across the country, 70% admit they’re concerned about how losing an hour of sleep with daylight saving time will impact their routine. But one thing they’re not giving up? Their coffee ritual.
- The time change has people most concerned about having to wake up earlier (29%), feeling more tired during the day (27%) and having trouble falling asleep (27%).
- While 48% plan to keep their coffee routine the same while they get used to daylight saving time, 28% of respondents say they’ll be reaching for more coffee to help power through.
- Nearly all of those surveyed (93%) make their own every morning, and on average, they spend about 16 minutes making and drinking coffee.
- That’s more time than they spend showering (11 minutes), eating breakfast (nine minutes) and doing their hair and makeup (eight minutes).
- But to make sure they still have time to brew up their cup of caffeine, 21% plan to shave off more time from their morning routine.
- If they woke up late and needed to cut something out of their routine, only 15% would skip out on coffee.
- Instead, they would skip making their bed (40%), eating breakfast (25%), shaving (22%), or packing their lunch (17%).
- Half would even be willing to be late to work in order to enjoy a perfect cup of coffee.
- The average coffee drinker consumes two and a half cups a day, and two-thirds say their ideal first cup is at 8 a.m., followed by another cup at 10:42 a.m.
- For 93%, coffee gives them at least some motivation to get through the day.
- Nearly three-quarters say having a quality cup of coffee affects how successful (73%) and easy (79%) their day is.

Scott's Thoughts:
- How do people who don’t drink coffee do it?! And don't tell me soda! That cannot begin to help like the precious elixir known as coffee!
- I am a coffee lover, but have to watch how much I get at my age or I get the shakes.
- I can skip food... but not coffee.
