Carly Pearce spoke about her vulnerable new ballad â including an update on her mom â during an appearance on CBS Mornings.
Pearce, 35, caught up with co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson on Wednesday (December 10). She spoke about her newest single, âDream Come True.â She wrote it with Lauren Hungate, Tofer Brown and Emily Weisband, and produced it with Ben West. Pearce said âevery line in the song is my story,â including the four-bedroom house at the end of a cul-de-sac, seeing her name in front page news, and her motherâs illness. She sings at the end of the song, "my mama's sick," and "it's gettin' too hard to come to my shows like she used to."
âYou also write about your momâs health, and how she canât always be at your shows, but she means so much to you. When you played this song for your parents, how did they respond?â Burleson asked Pearce during the CBS Mornings interview. King also jumped in to express her concern for the country starâs mom, who appeared in a photo on screen.
âSheâs doing actually really, really well,â Pearce said. âBut I wanted people to hear that part, and when I played it for them, my parents have only heard the song once because they couldnât handle it. But you know, itâs this real moment where my mom moved me to Nashville when I was 15 years old. Sheâs helped me so much. And now the very thing that we wanted to happen to me has almost kept me from being able to help take care of her in times, and sheâs not able to be with me. And again, itâs just all these different things that are realizations as you get older and as you realize whatâs important in life.â
Pearce shared that she wrote âDream Come Trueâ about a year ago because of the âhigh highs,â âand âlow lowsâ sheâs experienced in her career.she said she âreally needed to figure out why did I want to do music in the first place? I needed to reconnect with the dream.â The singer-songwriter said she also found herself âsurrounded by women my age that had husbands and a family, and this life that I didnât even realize that I wanted until that moment.
âAnd everybody has had to sacrifice something in their life,â Pearce said later. âThatâs kind of the universal message for me, and I hope that people like me are more willing to say that. âŚEven the stories, I feel like fans, when they relate to these songs, it helps me not feel alone. Itâs like one big therapy session where youâre like, âoh yeah. We all may have different lives and our lives may look differentâŚbut weâre all living the same human experience underneath it all.â And I think thatâs important to make sure fans feel that way.â
Pearce said in a statement via her record label that âDream Come Trueâ is âabout the sacrifices we make when chasing our dreams. If youâve ever felt that push and pull, know that youâre not alone. Writing this song has allowed me to return to my original dream, to reconnect with my roots and why I first fell in love with singing Country music.â
Pearce released âDream Come Trueâ as she gets ready for her fifth studio record, following 2024âs hummingbird (she released the deluxe edition, hummingbird: no rain, no flowers earlier his year). Pearce teased during her CBS Mornings interview that is on the way âreally soon,â and âJanuaryâs gonna be fun.â Watch the full interview below.
