There’s a brand-new event making waves in Central Virginia—and it’s bringing thousands of rubber ducks along for the ride.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Gleaning For The World will host its first-ever Duck Pluck, a fun-filled, family-friendly fundraiser at American Legion Lake in Lynchburg. And adding to the excitement, Scott Stevens—Afternoon Talent and Program Director—will be broadcasting LIVE from 11 AM to 1 PM right from the heart of the action.
Live from the Lake with Scott Stevens
If you know Scott, you know he’s all about community—and this event checks every box. From the lakefront to the kids’ zone, Scott will be right in the middle of the fun, sharing stories, meeting families, and helping spread the word about an organization that’s changing lives both locally and around the globe. Make sure to stop by, say hello to a local radio personality who has been on WYYD for nearly 12 years!
So what Is the Duck Pluck?
Picture this: 2,500 bright yellow rubber ducks floating across American Legion Lake—all racing to the finish line. Each duck adopted supports Gleaning For The World’s Helping Our Neighbors program, which provides critical items like food, hygiene supplies, and household essentials to families across Central and Southwest Virginia.
And yes… there are some serious prizes on the line:
- 🥇 1st Place – $2,500
- 🥈 2nd Place – $1,000
- 🥉 3rd Place – $500
At just $10 per duck, it’s a small investment for a big impact—and a shot at a big win.
But, it is more Than Just a Race!
The Duck Pluck isn’t just about the ducks—it’s a full day of entertainment for the whole family:
- 🍔 Local food trucks serving up crowd favorites
- 🎯 Carnival-style games and prizes
- 🎈 A fun-filled kids’ zone
- 🛍️ Local vendors and artisans
- 🚗 A classic car show (with spots still open to register)
Best of all? Admission is completely free, making it the perfect kickoff to summer.
Why It Matters
Gleaning For The World has been serving communities in need since 1998, delivering millions of pounds of supplies to people facing hardship—both locally and around the world. This event may be lighthearted and fun, but the mission behind it is powerful: Every duck adopted represents someone who will receive real, tangible help when they need it most.
